Tengah Beach

Pantai Tengah, which literally means Middle Beach, is the next best beach after Pantai Cenang. This vibrant beach is sited about 550 mtrs south of Cenang in Langkawi. It is quieter than the latter one and that's why, it makes the right place to lighten up. Its crystal clear waters entice people to come in, excepting monsoons when the waters get murky. This picturesque beach is apt to take long walks while holding the hand of your beloved in the moonlight. 

Here accommodation is easily available at the luxurious resorts and low key chalets to meet you needs. However, the beach is not actually apposite for swimming due to the existence of jellyfish. You will find everything such as retails shops, ice-cream parlors, restaurants and fast-food outlets to serve you the best while you enjoy your holiday. As far as shopping is concerned, there are a few souvenir shops along the beach from where you can get some really nice items. 

For people who want to get into some fun and excitement, head towards Aquabeat where thrilling rides would rush the adrenaline. And if you're not interested in such adventure, unwind yourself in the outdoor Jacuzzis. As the sun sets down, this quiet beach turns into a party spot with nightclubs, bars and restaurants thronged by the people. You can relish the amazing seafood offered at the restaurants out here. 

And if you wish, shake a leg to the beats of popular Djs at the nightclubs. Otherwise lounge while sipping an exotic drink at the bar. You can indulge in beach activities and also visit the nearby islands. Due to its tranquility, this beach is loved by both families and couples to spend some quality time with their loved ones. To put in brief words, Pantai Tengah is really beautiful, tranquil and pleasant place to chill out.

PANTAI TENGAH ATTRACTIONS

On the southernmost tip of Langkawi, lies Pantai Tengah – meaning 'Middle Beach' in Malay – a popular haven for family holidaymakers. Linked to the ever-popular Pantai Cenang just after the Lighthouse Restaurant, this one kilometre-long beach is the longest stretch of beach in Langkawi. It is a pleasant enough strip, albeit relatively quiet; sea activities such as boating are especially popular here.

Unfortunately Pantai Tengah doesn’t boast any sightseeing attractions – most holidaymakers tend to visit the nearby islands and tour Langkawi’s outlying attractions. Its sister beach, Pantai Cenang – hardly a five-minute walk away – boasts few sightseeing attractions – the biggest being Underwater World – if you’re craving a spot of excitement.

Shaded by a bright red canopy and located at the junction of Jalan Pantai Tengah and Jalang Pantai Cenang, Boom Boom Corner is the place to sample some authentic Indian/Pakistani fare. Service is prompt and the interior is dimly lit by red lights. Specialties include roti bom, naan, tandoori chicken and briyani rice as well as the teh tarik.

Chinese Kung Fu Restaurant

 Close by to Hoya's Cafe is The Eagle's Nest, found north along the way to Pantai Cenang. A small restaurant with a garden concept, this is a great place to unwind after a day of fun and sightseeing. With an intimate feel, there are very few things that are more pleasant than watching the stars appearing in the darkening sky as you enjoy your meal.

Fat Mum’s Seafood Restaurant

Known as one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Pantai Tengah area, Fat Mum’s has fresh seafood cooked in a variety of different ways; the best thing about the food here is the fact that it tastes delightfully home-cooked. The menu also includes a selection of Western cuisine; try the noodles-on-fire, the spicy garlic lobster and the butter prawns.

Kantan

This traditional Malay-style restaurant looks like a super-sized kampung house; the menu is an upscale and less spicy execution of traditional Malay dishes such as rendang and creamy-coconut curry fish. The courtyard boasts a beautifully decorated pond and fountain with lush greenery and a scattering of earthen pots all over the place. Try the Langkawi Malay-style juicy tenderloin beef and potato wedges stir-fried with dark soy sauce and spices and udang kebab serai – grilled prawns skewered on lemon grass stems.

PaPa Iranian Restaurant

Serving up a variety of Iranian cuisine, PaPa Restaurant – located at the beginning of Pantai Tengah – may not look like much from the outside. The interior is lit by fluorescent lights and the service is not truly welcoming but if you’ve had enough of seafood and Western fare, then grab an outdoor table at this eatery and dig into the kebabs.

Restaurant British Raj: The Great Taste Of India

In the afternoon this restaurant, frankly speaking, looks like a crumbling heap of bricks; paint is peeling off the walls and the tables and chairs inside this open-air restaurant look pretty shabby. However the food is surprisingly good and even though service may be a bit unfriendly and slow, the restaurant looks good at night when the lights are low. Try the chicken vindaloo – spicy Goan chicken cooked with mild vinegar – and the peas pulao – basmathi rice with green peas.

This German-Malaysian restaurant serves international and local fare; the freshly-squeezed juices are especially refreshing. SunSutra

The fabulously avant garde SunSutra is a posh restaurant along Pantai Tengah flanked by two clubs – Sunba Retro Bar and SunKarma. Boasting a wonderfully extensive menu of fusion cuisine that is competitively priced, you’re more likely to have a nice night out here than at one of the hotel restaurants; try the chocolate molten lava cake – it’s simply out-of-this-world.

Unkaizan Japanese Restaurant

If you’re in the mood for sake, then you should definitely pay a visit to Unkaizan. This premier Japanese restaurant smack dab in the centre of Pantai Tengah has live seafood you can select from large aquariums lining the walls, thus ensuring its freshness. The Japanese chefs will then cook the fish Japanese-style and take you on a culinary adventure; try the Sushi Gozen set and the salmon butter yaki.

For fresh seafood, head on over to the White Sand Seafood Restaurant. This Chinese restaurant has a fairly inventive and extensive menu. Prices are reasonable so it won’t burn a hole in your pocket; ask the waiter for specialities not listed on the menu.

PANTAI TENGAH SHOPPING

Langkawi – a duty-free zone – may have cheap chocolates and liquor but souvenirs, knick knacks and handicrafts are still pretty pricey. Pantai Tengah does not boast many shopping opportunities – retail stores are as scarce as hen's teeth but there is one strip mall and a cute chocolate store along the stretch.

To be honest Pantai Cenang has a more vibrant shopping scene – so if you’ve been bitten by the retail bug, then head on over there. On the other hand Pantai Tengah is a deserted two-lane road with more restaurants, clubs and resorts than shopping venues. The night market in nearby Temoyong on Thursdays is the best place to shop for cheap authentic Malaysian goods especially since it carries such a wide array of merchandise from produce, local delights, handicrafts, kitschy knick knacks and pretty batik clothes.

Chocoffee

Selling a wide variety of chocolates, the best thing about this place is the fact that you can go in and sample free chocolate. The cool interior is a welcome respite from the blistering sun outside and the chocolates are reasonably priced.
